I founded Real World in 1999 to help prepare students for life after university. Within 18 months of its launch, Real World magazine became the UK's leading graduate careers title. Since that time 4000 students have attended our career workshops and over 150 of the UK's largest graduate recruiters advertise in Real World each year.
Acting as an intermediary between employers and students in this way crystallised my view that the current education system is just not working.
Looking back, the seeds of discontent were sown long ago. According to one school report, "Darius went through a phase when he thought all work was pointless". Within a few weeks of arriving at university the game was finally up - I wrestled with how best to spend my time at university. Putting time into getting a good degree did not make it on to the list.
